This morning at around 8AM, a German Shepherd got in our yard and attacked our cat, Sabbath. He was standing over him when my wife ran outside and saw him. He ran off into the neighborhood, out the gate. Sabbath is critically injured and in an ICU at the Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists' Animal Hospital. It's near where I work, and I went over there at lunch today to see him. He is in very, very grave condition. As he has always done, when I put my hand into his oxygen tank and nudged his chin, he lifted his head and said meow to me but he laid his head back down. The next 24 hours will determine if he will suvive. He has a broken sternum and several broken ribs, a possible punctured lung, and he is torn up all over. I don't want him to suffer, but I don't want to lose him like this. You become attached to your pet and he becomes one of the family just like anybody else. It's doesn't seem right to ask for prayers for an animal, but say a prayer for Nick (I mean Chris). I got Sabbath for him 8 years ago on his birthday. It's his cat. This has been a rotten day.
As I was preparing to hit "submit", the phone rang (this time it was really ringing because I saw the light come on) and it was the vet. They have Sabbath sedated and medicated and he's hanging in there. His injuries are as extensive internally as they are on the surface. No guarantee that he will survive, that will be known by the end of the week, but if he does, there could be complications requiring surgery after his bones start healing. It's one day at a time at this point, those are the doctor's words. WC1
