My buddy Scott the drummer got married Saturday night at the St. Arnold's brewery over in the warehouse district. I couldn't go, I was playing another wedding over in Montrose, Debby is in Missouri, and Nick had a band rehearsal going on. So Kyle took his girlfriend Arrianna to Scott's wedding. According to these pictures, they had a splendid evening. Enjoy! WC1

I've taken my youngest son Nick with me to NHRA National events here. He enjoyed the all-day adventure. Nick never once complained, got bored, got out of line or became a burden to me or the friends I went with. He loved all of it. He did explore every square inch of Houston Raceway Park himself without getting "lost" and he did meet and hang out with sportsman racers' kids, checked out the junior dragsters and did all the available thrill rides, concessions and souvenir shops because I let him. He soaked it all in and couldn't wait to go back again. I could say I'm lucky, but like many of us, I raised him in strict avoidance of modern-day junk culture, as so many of the kids his age have been thrust into since they were born. A lot of parents just dump their kids off at malls, movie theaters, summer programs, etc., because they don't have time to spend with them...and that neglect is reflected in the kids' behavior. Nick's generation is full of troubled kids, I've seen that from the beginning of his school days. I spent a lot of time with Nick. I made the time to do it. I took him with me to see and interact with the things I do and I went with him to experience the things he was interested in. I instilled a sense of individuality, belonging and specialness in him all his life and I encouraged him to keep his mind open not only to paths that are separate from the mainstream but to create his own place in life and not blend in with the rest of the herd, like the kids I taught guitar classes to at the college. To say they were ill-bred and without manners or disclipine would be a gross understatement. Nick just wasn't raised that way. He stands out. He understood the sportsman classes and the professional classes and he took preference to the guys with the hot rods. He got a big kick out of the jet cars. But his take on a 4-wide National Event format is sounds like it could be fun, it's not conventional...but maybe it'll work out? Nick will be 18 in a couple of weeks. I have learned a lot from him. I never pushed him into anything; he pushed himself. As it turns out, he is growing up in my own image and likeness. When I grow up, I want to be like him! Cheers, WC1

Had a nice Valentine's Day. Emily and her friend Mike were invited to open the show for a prominent strings quartet playing at one of the grand old mansions in Northwest DC today. She and Mike played the The Swan by Saint Saens, followed by Mike doing a nice rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow on a Violin solo. With the weather, the event drew only about 50 music lovers, but the sound was amazing in the brand ballroom of the Josephine Butler Parks mansion. The main performers were the St. Charles String Quartet, who burned through some amazing classical music, followed by each of the members choosing a special Valentine's Day song dedicated to the crowd and to their sweetheart. They played You are so Beautiful, All You Need is Love, The Music of the Night (from the Phantom of the Opera), and a few other great songs. We finished the day with a trip to the ex-drag racing cam grinders Giovaninni family's Fish Market restaurant for some awesome seafood. It was so nice to see Emily and Mike play with such grace and ease in front of all those strangers. bp

BP's getting to experience music that not many other people get to hear, much less even hear ABOUT. And it's his daughter that's playing it! How cool is that? I hope to get to attend one of Emily's concerts some day. She's one of the best at that style of playing. She has an absolutely brilliant future, BP. Way to go, Emily! Cheers, WC1
