This Day In History

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

I'll never forget that scene when they brought Roman Gabriel and Sonny Jurgensen, 10 years after they'd retired, out on the field at halftime during the punt, pass & kick contest in an NFL playoff game. They had Fred Biletnikoff out there, too...anyway, they gave the ball to Gabriel and he threw a Mallard Duck that hit the ground after 15 yards...everybody kinda laughed, him too...then they gave the ball to Sonny. He put his beer down and laid his cigar across it, spun the ball around in his hands for a few seconds, got his grip, and then he stepped up and fired a perfectly spiraled 70-yard guided missile across that staduim. It went over the deep receivers' heads and bounced into the end zone...When the standing ovation came, he just shrugged, picked up his beer and cigar, put his arm around Roman Gabriel and sauntered off laughing... 8)

At age 41 (in 1974), Sonny won the passing title.
Quite a tandem at Q'Back in Washington in those days..Sonny & Billy (unreal Winner)

My Dad loved watching Sonny's skills ............and Billy Kilmers sheer "will" in action......Those were great days....
Landry vs. George Allen....Oh Yeah.....

Sonny & Sam Huff are awesome on the 'Skins Radio show (since 1981)
