Yes, that is very cool...it looks like it's rear-wheel drive. I'd like to see what's under the hood! I've got to quote Big Daddy here. The way these cars look, this photo your buddy sent of the Jetta and the rendering of the Golf..."It LOOKS right. It looks like it oughta be a race car." Cheers, WC1

I just KNOW I'm going to be sorry for it someday but it looks now like we have no choice but to forge ahead with this mad plan. There's way too many people out there that want to see it built - the phone is ringing off the hook and all my inboxes are full of "go for it" and "ya gotta do it" messages.

What's the worst that could happen other than cutting up a VW Golf that was just a parts car anyway? If it does not work we could always hang another style of body on it........

I of course see it as a good thing, Maritime. I know I'm a little biased, but look. You got just about everything you need already there. It'll all get put to good use. Why not just do it, it looks to me like it's going to work out great...a big plus is that your better half likes the idea. Mine has not liked some of my ideas in the past and even without any direct confrontation, her powers of persuasion ended up winning out. The hardest part of it to accept is that she was right all along. My only concern with this project is the rear wheel well clearance issue. That might mean having to do some life-size Photoshop with the body. Other than that, I think it'll be an awesome build and it appears you have everybody behind you on it! Good luck and Farfegnugen what ya brung! Cheers, WC1

Since there's not a whole lot of room behind the rear wheel openings the axle centerline will likely have to be shifted ahead to get the opening stretched enough for a big tire. The front fenders and hood will then have to be lengthened by the same amount to keep the 97" wheelbase. We'll figure it out somehow.........

Chassis is already welded(except for the cage) and it was originally intended to go under a Vega - hence the 97" WB. If I had a 2 door Jetta instead of a Golf there would be enough rear overhang so the rear axle centerline could stay where it is. That's only a guess since we may be able to fudge the opening enough to fit a big tire but won't know for sure till we start to hang the body.
