I made a long-wheelbase version of it today...lengthened the front end by around 23", it now has more or less a 120" WB. Stretched the fenders, hood and front bumper forward and down, chopped the top 4", and the car is narrowed by an inch or two...it almost has a Scirocco look...I made one version of it with the Ohio Chrankshaft blown engine and an A/FD rear wing, but decided to keep it wholesome for now. Don....a little creative thinking on those rear wheel wells....keep the outer appearance as is...but have a large enough section dzus fastened in place for tire removal. Its a race car for crimminey sakes: MAKE IT WORK!!

Was thinking about that too........maybe a interlocking seam(pic below) along the top of the quarter panel and a few dzus fasteners at the front and rear? Could always hide the front ones inside the door post........

Did a fair bit of searching on wheelbases and found out the VW Golf is not so short after all at 97"
Chevette - 94.3"
Daytona - 97.0"
Festiva - 90.4"
Firefly - 88.4"
Civic(72-79) - 86.6"
Civic(80-83) - 88.6"
Civic((84-87) - 94.0"

The interlocking seam would certainly be the ticket, Don...

I went WildcatOne and made an Outlaw Pro Mod outta Don's Golf. I put Don's head on the photographer up on that ladder, too. This would of course be in a perfect world.

I hope the Golf body drops right onto that chassis...there are some serious differences between the Golf and Vega bodies, even though the wheelbase and various dimensions are shown as the same...if not, it's ready to accept Vega skin. That Golf Outlaw P/M looks to me like it'd be unstable to say the least...even with the wing...way too much power and not enough body mass (car) to handle it...a stock-bodied version with an sbc would already be enough of a handful...heck, I wouldn't drive one of my radical designs. I'd sure enough give Rapid a shot at it, but if it was me in that thing, I'd be upside-down and over the wall in no time. Anyway, good luck with the real project, Don! Cheers, WC1
