Those junk engines will always surprise you FH.

Back in the 80's we were running a super-mod 4x4 pulling truck with a blown alcohol big block in it. We blew up the motor, but had an event that we really wanted to go to. We looked around and found an old Chevy wagon with a 454 in it. Yanked the engine out of the wagon, pressure washed the outside to get the grime off of it and spray painted it orange. We bolted it in truck, pulled the stock intake off of it and bolted the supercharger on top (mind you we were only running a tired 8-71 back then). We went out and ran it - never pulled the heads or covers - just changed the oil and ran it. We figured that it would be a good fireworks display at about half track. We won the event! The 'grenade' motor sat in the corner of the shop for 3 years - every time we hurt the good motor - the grenade went into the truck. It finally did self destruct, but it was a good little spare motor.

FH, There was a guy in Oklahoma had a 72 vette, he street raced a lot, he would buy re-builder reject short blocks, weird .080 over, .040 over stuff. He paid $250 sometimes less for em, he put his good heads and cam in them and hit them with nitrous. He won a lot!!! Made a lot of money, he'd blow em up and go get another. He outran some pretty good cars. Guys would bring out their race stuff on trailers to try and put him away, cause he'd race anybody for money, and more times than not, he'd outrun them! 8)
If you think it's exciting now, wait till we start it.

Image here's weetodd the wace engine, i actually sold the short block today. i priced it to a friend about 4 months ago when he spun a main bearing in his truck, i figured he didn't want it so i was going to have fun with it................well he came and paid me for it today  ..........lol, no biggie though i have 2 more wace motors to wail on anyway :D and i found out that my retro roller stuff wouldn't work in that one piece oe roller block anyway. it's still on and i'm still calling it weetodd. now i have to pull the head studs back out of this one. http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/index. ... ic=61219.0 here's a good thread about a turbocharged junkyard motor in a gta, crazy stuff. i think you don't realize your full performance potential untill you genuinely don't care about blowing it up.

8) keep us posted... my point was in the early 80's i didn;t know anyone other than the day to day tranny guy, parts house salesman, somebody's name at the local machine shop.... etc... most all of my uncle's buddies had either died or moved on to other things and weren't available to me but i wanted to race but lack of funds always held me back from getting any good at it...i paid exactly no attention to drag racing for many years other than spectating untill i got on-line and found sites like this one and a couple others that are into nostalgia funnycars.. made some friends like yourself FH... hooked up with an old co-worker with the cutlass that he put together for his oldest son (now serving overseas in Iraq ) for a father/son bonding deal. Iwent over to the track to check them out and got hooked again.... not for the et's or mph  .. just for something to do.. now i am addicted to trying to win rounds in street et :D .... this will be our third lap to INDY for the division finals.... can;t wait to get there !! Iam more comfortable sitting in a walmart fold up chair next to a bracket car open trailer at the track than i am at a family members birthday dinner at a fancy resturaunt....

hey man i know what you're saying, i just plain don't like a crowd of people family or not! my life has pretty well been centered around the internal combustion engine, cars are really the only thing i really know anything about. i get pretty blue in the winter about not getting to go to the track anyway so i figgured that i'd better get in some racing before winter gets here or i might not be wild about getting after it next year, even with a junkyard motor racing is racing, wheather you're figure skating in a fuel altered or workin the stripe in street et, gentlemen start you're engines!!

Dad was in the hospital (Cox South) in Springfield for a few days..... Point is I have nothing holding me where i live and after the family home is detailed out and sold mine is next... clean it up, cash out and look for something with an acre of ground with good shop space and a small living space... let me know what you see around !! 8)
