OK, I named my Volkswagen. His name is George. The Beatle.

Also on the VW front, I found out what that "rubbing" sound is while I'm driving it...it needs new ball joints, bushings and beams in the front end. I talked to my cousin Bert in Shreveport last night and he told me a lot of stuff that will definitely help out. I went online and found a place that has the whole kit...problem is, they have 60 different versions of the kit, ranging in price from $184 to $999. I think I'll get the $300 kit. He also told me you can get a disk brake conversion and it's easy. He also told me about an electronic ignition kit that can easily be installed that will eliminate the need for points, rotor and all that stuff in the distributor...I'm gonna spring for that stuff and a few other things that I'll outline further as time goes on. I'm going to Shreveport Thanksgiving weekend, I have a couple of gigs in Carthage that weekend so I'll go stay with Bert...maybe drop George off with him till Christmas and let him take the car to his guy up there that does this work...wish I had Bert right here, but he's a great guy and his expertise with Bugs is impeccable...also going to get a RIGHT-hand-side mirror that matches the one that's on the left. George don't have but one side mirror...Bert gave me some URLs to check out that have all those parts plus the trunk liner and inner (and outer) dashboard covers. I need 'em both...Cheers, WC1

John Nice Beetle , it reminds me of my 72 super 1600 convertible , I Have a book recommendation for you it is a real book and if you can find a older copy it ill help you out emensly ! Image

my dad got me a copy of it when I was 16 and I will not let it out of my hands even when he bent the shift fork like doc did , my dad had a 70 1200 with the single cv joints trans axle I had the double cv which was alot better and stronger design till my next door neighbors daughter striped out the brass reversing gear when I tried to teach her how to drive stick , and for insulatating the package area in back I used ragcloth ( the stuff they use in car insulation ) and astro turf. have fun oh yes and keep you hand off the stick when you aren't shifting as it makes the shift forks sloppy over time as it puts a load on them which can cause it to lock out between gears

P.S. got the disk friday thanks !!

go to www.dragcoverage.com , click into forums and go to Drag Racing Photos/DC Show Room......once in there, click on Pro Mod Bug....I "think" you will like the modifications  .........
