Thanks, ProZ and Jim. We're not sure whose dog did it. Debby and Kyle called the police and filled out a report. Kyle and Nick seek vengeance against the dog. I don't. I've watched how it is with the animals in the neighborhood and it's the law of the jungle out there. They instinctively hunt and kill each other. I've seen mangled bodies of birds, lizards and mice that Sabby would leave on the doorstep as a gift so that he could hear Miss Debby sing her song when she stumbled over them when she'd go out on the patio to have her coffee in the morning. It's a never-ending game of survival for the animals. Night before last, Sabbath got into it with the neighbor's cat that lives 2 doors down. He won. But a big dog will ruthlessly destroy any cat he can get his jaws into, and this time Sabbath didn't get away quick enough. I will back up my boys and my wife if they can find out whose dog did it, but I'm not going to go looking for him. The gate was open. It's a deadly game, as old as the ages. Problem is we don't carry a medical insurance card for our cat, ya know. This is costing a small fortune. It's not that I am not going to take care of it, but the responsibility should be with the owner of the unleashed dog that came onto our property and did this to our cat. In that respect, I believe that they are liable. We'll check into that. Debby saw the dog. It will become a matter of litigation, I suppose. Cat

John,
I will pray for Sabbath and you and your family are in my thoughts and in my heart. Animals have an amazing ability to recover. Positive thoughts.

Hey Cat, I'm right with you in that I do also feel that pet owners are not given enough accountability and responsibility for their animals. It always seems to be the animal that ultimately gets the boot, but, as with parents of children, the parents should be in the seat and made responsible for the actions of the little personalities for which they 'care'.
Anyway, that's my ten cents worth, so here's some pics of my little girl, she's a rescue from our local shelter, we've had her a couple of years now and we're just about inseperable.

Thanks, Jerry, Expat and Bee...We had a conference with the vet today after visiting Sabby. He isn't moving his hind legs or urinating on his own, which means he might have a damaged or severed spinal cord. I'm meeting with a neurologist tomorrow morning. We will have the dye treatment done to determine if surgery will be necessary or effective. None of us have the heart to let him go. He's going to survive, but he might survive as a paraplegic...not an easy life for a cat, that's for sure. Then again, he could completely recover in time. But thanks, I'll keep ya posted on what happens. WC1

Cheers.

Many thanks, Expat. I really appreciate your kind words, and everybody's.
Major improvement.
Sabbath was given an upgrade to guarded but stable condition at this point. He has some movement and sensation in his hind legs and it looks like he urinated on his own last night. This morning they put him on his feet. He stood there wobbly...for a while...but his right front leg crumpled when he tried to take a step...His injuries are multiple, traumatic and extensive but at this point Dr. Longshore the neurologist is recommending Sabbath has a nice, long stay with Dr. Cook the veterinarian and further testing and evaluations will be made as needed, but his recommendation to have the dye procedure and possible surgery done to his spine was withdrawn this morning. It looks like he's going to be back home with us after a few weeks, but he's never going to be the same. We'll have to keep an eye on him and make sure he is doing all right. He is covered with deep puncture wounds, he has multiple fractures and his spinal cord was nearly severed but is apparently coming around after a severe shaking. It will be great to have him back. He is the love center, the emotional anchor, of our family, as it turns out. This will hopefully come to a happy conclusion soon. It's still touch-and-go, he was about as hurt as he could be without getting killed. Debby showed up and ran the dog off at the last possible second...WC1
