FWIW, You do NOT want to eliminate that bar. Some friends of mine bought an alcohol car that only had one diagonal in that area and when they took it to McKinney for some other work, he told them that when they started making HP they would have serious problems in that area. They did.
I've been told that where that bar meets the shoulder hoop, just below and behind the front roll bar is the most critical point in the chassis. That is where the stress goes. In fact, if there is not a tube inside the shoulder hoop at the point, you will have to install a short bar between the roll bar and the shoulder hoop. The location of this bar is pretty specific. If you are going to be doing any chassis mods, I strongly suggest getting a hold of the SFI spec sheet that the inspectors use.
