man it gets quiet around here when you don't have a car that runs.... :(

Still no definate word on the block schedule - hope to hear the end of this week.

Decided to knock the bearing pins out of the rods and get them re-sized. Since Brooks (actually all aluminum rods) have a tendency to do some stretching in the first 10-20 runs, I figured it would be good to get these resized and they should be good to go. Don't need them sqeezing the sides of my bearings down...

Did some measuring and it looks like the oil pump isn't going to fit in front of the block unless I put a reeellly looong driver mandrel on the crank. I guess I'll get a reverse rotation one and turn it around and stick it in the grille.

Gotta rebuild the front motor mounts so that I have room to get all those oil lines up through there.

said it was quiet - didn't say there wasn't anything to do...

Thought I'd check in with my lack of status...

I've been working on important things lately - painting the storage barn (that took 2 weekends), getting the motorhome ready for vacation (yes now that we're not racing, the wife wants to go on vacation) ...

I talked to the block repair guy a couple of days ago. He's done his final inspection and found all the cracks that he could. All of the cracks have been machined out ready for welding. He was hoping to get them welded up this week and get machining next week.

Now if someone would buy my LS-1 so that I have money to order my rods and pistons....

I know I've been quiet - not much to report - just trying to refill the cookie jar 'cause it looks like I need to spend some money...

Took my stroker crank to be checked on the off-chance that it could be repaired. It can't. It's got a big crank in #2 main - which was understandable since that's where the explosion was. The weird one is that #4 main (clear in the back of the motor) is cracked - and .010 out of align! Anyway - it's being used to hold the blower pulley on in my dummy block now...

Took my set of 4.125 sleeves over to the machine shop the other evening. I figured I'd better run the bore gauge in them before I got too excited about using them. The best one was .006 oversize - most of them were over .008. They'll be a good set of sleeves if someone wants to bore them out to a larger size, but they're a bit sloppy for the 4.125 pistons that I have. So much for that combination...

I've pretty much decided to go back to my 4.030 sleeves - I'll only need to buy 2 and be good to go. I like the thick walls better anyway - better seal. So I'll need pistons.

Still looking for a crank. I found a Moldex 1/4 stroker, and a Crower .050 destroked. The Crower has big block chebby rod journals, so wouldn't be a bad way to go for bearings and rotating weight. Found several forged cranks - I know that a good forged crank is every bit as strong as a billet, but I'm still hesitant.

The saga continues....

(Maybe I should just just put a carb'ed small block and radiator in it, put plates on it, and go cruising.....)

Thanks for the update. I was wondering what you had planned for the beast. Good Luck,

Rapid

Good luck with the updates, Perry. I was thinking about you this weekend as we drove right through Mantua and past the 44/82 intersection. Had a 50th wedding anniversary celebration at the Shalersville Town Hall. Saw those folks, my sister, and my cousins. Not enough time to get around on weekend visits! bp

I'm still planning Randy - one of these days I'll make up my mind :?

Didn't you see me waving BP? We'll have to do dinner one of these times you're out here.

I talked with Missle yesterday. He's got the block done, the new main caps made, it just needs align bored and it's pretty much done.

Haven't done anything worthwhile on the car lately, so there's not much to report.

That sounds great! Getting the parts back is always good news. 8)
