Randy, you need some nitro mixed already, I don't think we will be needing any for awhile. I have jugs of it, 20-27%.

SEPTEMBER 16 Race Report

We just got back from yet another "day at the races". This race turned out to give us a new best ET and a new best MPH as well. We are doing this drag racing thing, one baby step at a time, and it's paying off.

We started Saturday's race by dropping the tire pressure down to 7 3/4 lbs, and delaying the first stage of nitrous by 1.50 seconds. We kept the second stage from hitting till 3 seconds into the run, as we have before.

The only change we made to the car was to drop the tire pressure, so I did the burnout the exact same way as I did at the test and tune day. This way we would know for sure if the tire pressure deal was the problem. After staging I did the usual wait for the two top bulbs to light, press the trans brake button, then mash the pedal. As soon as I put the pedal down, the engine stumbled and I lifted, and brought it back down again. In doing this, I must not have got the pedal down far enough, and the launch was kind of lame, but it stuck!

The new nitrous timer we have, has to be reset after the burnout. The timer is activated by the trans brake button, and is reset by the line lock button. For those that don't know, in order for us to back the car up, the trans brake button must be used, this is how a Pro-Brake works. If you do not press the button, the trans will not go into reverse.

Due to not resetting the timer with the line lock button, the nitrous never activated, and the first pass was on the motor only. It was a 9.63 @ 143.64. Not a stellar pass, but it taught me what I have to do in order to get the timer to work properly.

Now with that taken care of, our next pass would be a little different. It was obvious that the tire pressure was the reason for our troubles. Now we can try hitting it a little harder. It was decided to keep the same delay with the first stage at 1.50 seconds, and the second stage at three seconds. Still doing the same burnout, and remembering to reset the timer, I was set and ready. This time the engine did exactly what it was supposed to by going right up on the launch limiter.

The launch was perfect with just a tiny bit of tire spin. When the first stage came on I sure knew it, then the second stage hit, HOLY CRAP!! I hung on till the stripe passed under me, and hit the chutes. This pass turned out to give us an ET of 8.42 and a new best MPH of 171.34. Happy? Oh ya!! It sure felt great!! I need MORE!!

After a quick plug change, and a quick go-over on the rest of the car, we were set to give it a tad more. We changed the first stage to come in instantly, and kept the second stage at three seconds. Everything else would stay the same, tire pressure, burnout, staging, and all.

Pre-Stage, Stage, GO! Another picture perfect launch with the tires grabbing the track for all they were worth. Second stage activated as planned and I was off to yet another personal best, only this time it would include the ET as well as the MPH. The time slip read 8.23 @ 171.64 WOOHOO!!! That was the first round of eliminations, and the car I was running against got to the stripe first with a 8.20..... ARGH!! His margin of victory was .0268. My son and I were two very happy campers, despite losing in the first round. We felt the victory was ours, as we are now that much closer to where we would like to be.

EXCELLENT day at the track.
