I'm the same way. I love REAL country music (which to me is authentic bluegrass, country swing, the stuff from the 60s, etc.) I can't stand this prepackaged Top 40 crap, though. Actually, I hate prepackaged Top 40 crap in any genre, so maybe that's it and not country music itself. As for Johnny Cash, I have "The Man Comes Around" -- his last album before passing. What a treasure. bp

Johnny Cash. God Murder Drugs Love Sex Death. The absolute monarch of modern American music and a human being of extreme talents, gifts and personal turmoil. Anything by him'll be fine with me, gents. Last night a cowboy buddy of mine showed up at the gig. That was the weirdest gig...I'll talk about that in The Night Shift...anyway, he sat in with the band with me on bass and Mikey switched over to lead guitar while Lynn was out in the parking lot eating bananas and arguing on the phone with 5th Street and he did "Folsom Prison Blues", "Six Days On The Road" and "Good-Hearted Woman" and suddenly the place danced, even with Mikey playing full-shred Heavy Metal guitar to those songs. (what was he thinking? Good question for the whole band last night...) Anyway, when he hit that signature lick on "Folsom Prison Blues", whoops and yelps came up out of the nearly empty place and for a few minutes, it was a good gig. In his autobiography, John R. Cash was summoned from his post on the edge of the iron curtain to the Pentagon in the early 1950s, to be offered the position of chief code-breaker with the CIA in Europe. He had been unravelling the Russians' radio code transmissions for a couple of years in Berlin, and he was the best they ever saw at it. He had a fully-loaded career laid out for him in international espionage and the highest-level of intellectual analysis waiting for him to accept, and he chose to go his own way. Gonna spend the day in the shop so we'll be listening to CBC Radio One. Only thing that still works out there anymore is the radio(sawdust does weird things to tape and CD players)

I made a neat plexiglass cover for my CD player in the garage. The remote works fine thru it too, and there's plenty of room around it to let the heat out. A few years ago I was doing the woodworking thing, and to this day, I'm still finding sawdust.
