my god, what a weekend!!! we showed up about 4:30 saturday afternoon, and got to go hang out in the garage with george ray, and darrel dickson, we sat in there and bullshitted untill about 6:30, then we went and got something to eat, as we were pulling back in george invited us to come in and have supper with him, and bonnie, unfortunatley we were already full and had to decline his very generous offer, we camped out in the pits, i had too many coronas, and woke up sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt, we headed out for breakfast, and as we were coming back in, george was out in the yard getting a drink from the garden hose, so we went over and bs'd with him for another couple of hours, i can't describe to you guys how cool george is, here he is, the world famous george ray himself, and he has time to hang out with a couple of grease monkeys that dragged and old slow pontiac across the state to meet him, anyway, somewhere along the way while i had wandered off, doug mentions to george that it would make my life to get to go for a ride in the roadster, well, he took me for a ride, when he romped that thing, it snatched the front wheels off the ground, and took off like a scalded ass dog with a thin skin so i asked george if he'd ever ridden in a turbo car, and that i'd like to give him a ride in mine, he didn't say anything so i dropped it, we were all standing around talking, and he looked at me and said "didn't you say you were going to clean off your tires?" so i snapped to attention and said yes sir!, i went and got my car and george got in , we did a little burnout, and i footbraked it, and swapped feet, it spun so i pedaled it, and that time it hooked, we were off like a shot, i ran it to the top of first gear and shut it off, george looked over at me and said "this sumbitch will run!" i still haven't been able to peel the smile off my face from that one. then doug made his first pass ever down a dragstrip, he did fine, and likened the experience to "loosing your virginity to the best looking girl in school" i made about 10 more passes, doing a couple of wheelies about a foot high, then a beutiful blue corvette hit the fence, that car is going to need some major work after that fence grabbed hold of it and tried to fold it double i wound up entering the 8.0 class because i was running 7.70's, and just figured i could pedal the hell out of it, i got tree'd first round, and managed to run the guy down and stick a wheel out in front of him but broke out by a couple of hundredths i had more fun this weekend than i ever have racing anywhere, george ray is a real gentleman (unless he needs to pull the 38 out of his front pocket), and if you can ever get there i say do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
