What a great weekend! I got 6 runs in on the little guy and the cars doing great - the driver wasn't so hot though
Took the car to the track Friday morning - they were doing time trials all day. Since the kids had school, I was a one man band, but Johnny was as well, so we took turns running the dragster and then the gasser.
First run out of the box with the new motor and gear combo gave me a 8.76 @ 154. I had 100lbs of oil pressure the whole run - well when I could look at it while it was doing a little dance at the top end
I checked everything over - it all looked good - no leaks - nothing coming loose. All the plugs looked like new except for #5 which was just starting to show some heat, so I upped it's nozzle a bit to even things out.
2nd run on Friday it left good an pulled hard until I got to the back end. I had to lift twice to keep the nose pointed in the right direction. 8.85 @ 141. It wasn't just me - everyone was getting loose on the back end - so I didn't feel too bad.
It rained over night on Friday and looked threatening on Saturday morning, but we never got a drop of rain. Jack and Sharon stopped by Sat morning an visited for a bit - it's always good to see fellow listers.
I retorqued the heads and went through everything Saturday morning - nothing moved other than a couple of intake rockers apparantly didn't get their bearings lock-tited enough and were trying to escape. I knocked them back in - and watched them the rest of the weekend - had to remind them several times as to where they belong - that will get torn down and remedied this week. The plugs showed no heat, so I took some fuel away since the air was actually slightly worse then it had been on Friday.
First run on Saturday gave me a 8.78. They had glued the top end and it was much more stable in that regard, but now we had to deal with a strong cross wind which made it interesting on the back end.
I took some more fuel away and went out for another pass. I got a bit carried away in getting the engine up against the converter in staging and pushed through the beams to turn on the big red light - oops. I left and the run felt stronger than the earlier runs, but with the huge red light, I ended up with a 8.99 time - so I really have no idea what the car really ran.
For the first round in the show I got matched up with Bob Sarkasian in the Hellacious Anglia. He got me on the tree by a bit (me reaction times were really bad this weekend - as you'll see later) but we ran side by side the whole race - it was a fun race. I lost first round with an 8.67 to his 8.63. I was happy anyway, the car was working good. We checked everything over and got the car ready for first round on Sunday and watched the rest of the race. Eldon Miller with the Black Widow '33 Willys won the pro class.
Sunday was a gorgeous day - temps in the 60's, sunny. Still a stiff wind to contend with though. We left the tuneup alone, the air was a slightly better and I just wanted to get some more time on the car before I started tweaking too much. It's still fat - but that's just fine for now.
Sunday first round I got matched up with Brian Wenrick - Brian has a gorgeous '52 Willys. Now remember that I warned you about my reaction times - Apparantly someone needed to kick me in the butt to get me to leave on this one because I left with a .254

to his .080. I had him covered otherwise - I was gaining on him the whole way but ran out of race track. I lost with a 8.64 @ 155 to his 8.71.
I could kick myself, but I'm happy. The car is working well - and it's still in one piece. The best the car has ever run is an 8.63, so I'm pretty much running at the level it has been at, with lots of tweaking room.
