What's on the Jukebox?

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

I have quite a few songs that I made into long versions. The Stroll, Shout, and a bunch of others. I used them alot back in my DJ days.

That brings me to a subject that has long been dormant in the canyons of my mind...I'd thoroughly enjoy a party with Mike as the DJ...Mike, you oughta get CDs made out of those old records you used to play, we'll throw a party and you can DJ us. I'd love it. Do it! Like you don't have enough to do already! Cheers, WC1

I'm watching Elvis Costello on Austin City Limits on PBS. It could be the atrocious sound, the distorted, muddy high-volume, screaming-feedback hollow-body guitar and a chain of small amps cranked to 11 that he insists on using, but the material he is playing is unintelligible and he's yelling a thousand words a song into a blasting, overloaded PA system and his band is beating the daylights out of their instruments at beyond pain threshold. I have mentioned before that I have hearing loss at a severe level, and I miss most of the stuff I'm supposed to hear. But although I like Elvis Costello, this is one of the worst concerts I've ever seen on this show. They sound like a garage band zonked-out on magic mushrooms trying to play material that's way beyond their ability. It would be so much better if they played clean. This is crazy. Robert Plant is coming on at 10:30; hopefully he'll have a good show. Cheers, WC1

The Robert Plant concert on "Soundstage" is amazing. He has a big band and sound crew, they are playing versions of a lot of his Led Zeppelin songs with new arrangements and new styles, and they are great...it's stuff he wrote; he can do it any way he wants, but these songs are killer. His voice is an instrument just like the guitars and synths are. They're tearing it up, they have modern, hi-tech sound, world beat, and they're hypnotic...balanced, dynamic...great show...what's funny about these two posts is I wasn't ever much of a Robert Plant fan; I kind of saw him as a rock-star caricature, with his curly billowing golden locks and blouses, bumps and grinds, nothing about his act I could relate to (not that part, anyway), and I highly regarded Elvis Costello as an artist, a songwriter and as an uncompromising individualist...after watching these two shows tonight, the two images are now reversed. Elvis Costello made a fool out of himself, and Robert Plant more than redeemed his image to me. He was better than I ever thought he could be without Led Zeppelin. Cheers, WC1

Cool deal Cat. I've seen bits & pieces of the show but never the whole thing. Robert Plant sure has had a divierse style of music. I liked the swing band he put together the Honey Drippers. There was a night of Long Island Ice Teas, a bar, a chick, Honey Drippers on the jukebox........
Well thats another story........
