It appeared to me that Elvis "slipped one in on 'em"...even some of the bands I've seen recently on that show that really don't have anything new or interesting to offer and turn in mediocre performances couldn't hold a candle to the mountain of crap that Elvis Costello laid down last night...at the beginning of his set, he said "It's nice to be back." Then he unleashed a river of noise that would have made the Plastic Ono Band cringe. There was a certain deliberateness about all of it. He did the whole show that way and it got worse as it moved along until at the end, he laid his guitar down in front of his screeching amps, left it all turned up all the way, howling feedback into the sound system, turned around and did a full spread-open arms bow to the audience, smiling triumphantly. I was thinking this has got to be some kind of joke...a formula, a kind of "Take THAT!" He's not an easy guy to figure out, that's for sure, but I think he lost more fans than he had the opportunity to make with that show...Cheers, WC1
