Took it down to Quaker City Saturday for a few test and tune hits. The club had organized a get together and even though only 6 of us showed up, we got to run together and had our own little race within the race.
It was very hot and very humid.
I left the tuneup where I had it last weekend for the first pass. The car count was really low and there hadn't been too many cars down the track, so I figured I'd leave it be and see how the track was. The track turned out to be pretty good. I lined up beside a pretty '33 Willys with a blown big block in it. These guys have yet to get the car down the track - it reminds me of me for the last couple of years. Since we didn't have much help I decided I'd do a stationary burn out so I didn't have to be backed up - I told Michele to slap me next time I suggest that. I filled the car up with smoke so bad it was ridiculous. I rolled up to about the tree and opened my door. I couldn't even see the steering wheel! I sat there for what seemed like forever and I could finally make out a hand waving me back. I backed it up and the starter opened the passenger door and got it cleared out. I finally could see enough to stage. We left and I could see his grille out of my peripheral vision

With the terrible air, the car was really sluggish and only managed a 8.95 @ 148.
Setting up for the second run, apparently the heat got to my brain and I out-tuned myself. I figured I'd spin the blower harder, so I got out my brand new, never been used little top pulley and up'ed the blower overdrive from 15% to 26%. Now If I would have done the math right (OK - if I'd done ANY math

) I would have determined that 5-6% of that blower increase made up for the difference in air quality and that I was really only adding about 5% to the blower - and that it was fat enough that I could have done that without touching the fuel. But remember, my brain was mush... I added fuel as if I was adding 11% to the blower on a good tuneup. In other words - whatever I gaveth, I taketh away...
I lined up with Steve Duber and his blown small block '33 Willy's. We left almost together I .007 to .009 (my son still doesn't beleive that I cut an .007 light

). I ran a 8.67 @ 154. Not bad, but not quite what the intention of all that tuning was
I would have liked to have made another pass, but the oil pressure gauge told me to stop (yes - I listen to that little gauge a lot nowadays...) I ran Brad Penn 50wt last weekend - for 6 passes and it was still holding 100lbs of pressure at the line. I was out of oil and all I could find was Valvoline 50wt. The first run, the oil pressure was 80-90 at the line, and the second run it was only about 50-60 at the line. Apparently the little hemi just doesn't like Valvoline

. We'll check the bearings this week and get some more oil.
