At the monthly meeting of the Cape Breton Drag Racing Association last night we decided to get involved in a Jr Dragster training program. We will put on displays and classes in schools and shopping mall parking lots and have a "rent a ride" program during our regular race weekends. Theory being if we can get the younger generation hooked they will drag parents, grandparents and friends to the track.
Since yours truly has far too much free time on his hands I've been assigned to find a couple of bare bones entry level Jr Dragsters - the cheaper the better.
I couldn't think of a better place to ask for help. I figured at least one of you would be able to hook us up with a supplier.
Thanks

Good Luck Maritime! I know our local track Eddyville rents them on Friday Nights along with a class on how to run it. 8)

Raceway Park PEI June 9-10 report by Earl Proude

VanWiechen Double Winner at Raceway Park

On the weekend at Raceway Park, Mario VanWiechen won the “High-Dollar” Bracket Class on Sunday afternoon and the First Division of the “Mulligan” Gamblers’ Race on Saturday.

With the event sandwiched between two ADRA weekends, organizers decided to spice things up a bit because of the expected low car count. On Saturday “Mulligans” were sold to the drivers as they registered for the Gamblers’ races. The “Mulligan” got the driver back into the program after his or her first loss. It proved to be a popular and interesting concept.

The final in the First Division saw Charlottetown’s Mario VanWiechen in his newly built 1989 Ford Thunderbird defeat Rick Trites from Lakeville West, NB in his 1980 Chevy Malibu. Charlottetown’s John MacKinnon took third with a win over Hunter River’s Brian Toombs.

In the Second Division Gamblers’ Race, the always steady Vaughan Boone in his 1970 AMX out of Dartmouth, NS defeated Matt Clow’s 1985 Camaro from Charlottetown. Jody Gallant from Oyster Bed Bridge beat Summerside’s Joey Veno for third place.

The Junior Dragster Division saw two first time racers work their way to the final. Wellington, PEI’s Brett Ramsay drove his new dragster to victory over William Newcombe from Tyne Valley, PEI.

Late Sunday afternoon fans saw the 1968 Dodge Coronet of Charlottetown’s Travis Livingstone jump into an early lead against VanWiechen’s Thunderbird with a pretty good hole shot but run just a hair under his “dial-in’ to lose to the big Ford. It was however, a pretty good day for the Pro Bracket car to make it to the final among a field of mostly Super Pro cars. Brian Toombs of Hunter River once again finished third.

In the Second Bracket Division Hunter River’s Glenn MacLean drove his 1977 Chevy Nova to a final round victory over the 1973 Dodge Challenger from Margaree Harbour, NS owned by Greg Gillis. Oyster Bed Bridge’s Mike MacDonald finished third with a win over Wellington, PEI’s Chad Ramsay.

Charlottetown’s John MacKinnon won the Duck Race with a win over newcomer Josh Toombs who just this year graduated from the junior dragster class. Toombs had three lights in the 500's during the afternoon but pushed a little too hard in the final and red lit with a .497 reaction time.

In the Junior Dragster Division Hunter River’s Matt MacLean bested Saturday’s winner, Brett Ramsay, in the final. Cornwall’s Craig Campbell finished third.

The Juniors had a Duck Race of their own which saw Daniel Collister drive his Junior Drag Bike to victory over Kevin Gallant from Bloomfield, PEI..

Next action at the track is a Sport Compact and Sport Bike weekend June 22-24. Meanwhile Tuesday night street drags continue each week at 6:30.

Really low car count this past weekend at Cape Breton Dragway due mostly to the poor weather on Saturday morning and the doom and gloom weather forecast for Sunday. Clarenville Dragway
June 23-24 report By Dave Anthony
Well our 2nd weekend of racing for 2007 in the books and the weather played a role Saturday with a downpour just as we were to send the 1st pair in the gamblers race. In the end we had to call off the racing for the day. Sunday proved to be a much better weather day and the event went off with out a hitch with some very close racing. Con Dunphy lost is the semi with a .500 light but he was .001 under his dial for the breakout loss. Not a bad way to jump back in after a year’s absence.

The Powell’s figured out a way to get the T Bird down the track, limit the throttle to about 2/3rds, set the clutch very soft and go out and run a 7.60! Not to be outdone Powell Sr. decided that 7 cylinders were not enough in the Fairlane and got all 8 working (long story ) the result a move from the low 10’s to an 8.45! Willie Brewer hit a 7.60 in his Ford power dragster but is still encountering a few growing pains, good new is that there seems to be a lot of potential left yet.

Results:

Gamblers Race – Not contested

Super Pro / Pro Combo – 5 Rounds
Winner – Bobby Maddigan - Nova
R/U – Gerard Ronayne - Nova
Third – Con Dunphy - Dragster

Next racing will be in 2 weeks, July 7th & 8th . On the 7th we will be having our first high stakes gamblers race. We expect the pot to be in the $2,500 range for the day. For additional Information contact Clarenvilledragway.com or call 758-RACE.

Race Results from Cape Breton Dragway July 27-29
Norm Pickrem Memorial Maritime Nationals / ADRA Points Meet

After two days of 30+ celsius(90's F) weather some clouds and lower temperatures on Sunday was a welcome relief for everyone. While it threatened rain all day we only had a few sprinkles just before the final rounds were to start. After a 20 minute delay it dried up and we got the event in the books. Soon as the last pair left the starting line there was another shower. The 3rd and 4th racers in Super/Pro decided to add both payouts and split the money rather than settle it on the track while dodging the raindrops.
Final results below - Next ADRA event is August 11-12 at Raceway Park PEI.

Super/Pro
1.John MacKinnon
2.Blair Buchanan
3/4 Split - Jason MacNeil - Kelly MacKay

Pro
1.Scott Sprague
2.Lewis MacDonald
3.Gerard Bryden
4.Dave Reardon

Street
1.Henk Neisten
2.Kevin Johnson
3.Richard Legere
4.Beaudah Van Weichen

Bike/Sled
1.Gussie O'Regan
2.Glen Frizzel
3.Bruce Courtney
4.Steve Campbell

Jr Dragster
1.Hillary Capstick
2.Matt MacLean
3.Craig Campbell
4.Brianna O'Handley
