same ol bore Vic - Donovan sells their blocks without sleeves, so I'm putting the sleeves I had back in this one - they've only got 8 runs on them since new anyway

Was out of town for business, so not much got done...
The starter fits now - my apprentice-level mill operation didn't come out too bad...
I threw the crank in it and a slug in one hole. Nothing hits, but the rod to block clearance isn't enough, so I need to do some grinding in there.
While I had this much assembled, I figured I might as well throw a head on it and check piston to head clearance. I've got .050 more than I had before! That means that the old blocks after years of align boring and decking had .050 less deck height than they were supposed to!
Clearance is good, but I started worrying about compression ratio, or lack thereof. I got out the CC equipment and CC'ed the slug in the new block. (I had my numbers from before, but I wanted to get the real deal rather than trusting a recalculation) The compression ratio came out to 10.0. A bit lower than I'd like if I were building this from scratch, but not low enough to cause major concern.
So far so good...

It's a new record: The car is running and we've still got a month before the first race.
I fired it this morning. Now I can go on vacation without worrying about it...
I'm goin to Disney World!
I'll talk to y'all in a week or so.

It was definately nice to have a week away! The only bad thing about a vacation is going back to work on Monday...
I've got most everything buttoned up on the car this weekend. My current plan is to make a couple test and tune passes this coming weekend at Thompson - weather permitting.

WOO HOO!
First run out the box - 8.49 / 158
Second run - 8.55 / 160
That's a new record for the car - the previous best was 8.64 and I've never been faster than 154.
Guess it's ready for the 8.50 index class.
First run was like it was on a rail.
Second run moved around a bit more on the lauch and midpoint when it got into a cross wind - more like it's normal self.
Let's just say I'm pretty happy right now...
