It was a late night at Quaker for the Nostalgia Wars race, but worth it - we ended up winning the Nostalgia A class!

I turned it down a little bit after the runs at Thompson. That combined with a slippery track and we were down a little bit on ET. Our 2 time runs came out to 8.89 and 8.83. They were fairly consistent and since things were a little slippery I didn't want to tune it up and take the chance of making the tire slip worse - so I left it alone for eliminations.

They give us .10 under our fastest time run for our elimination 'index', so I ended up with an 8.73 dial.

35 cars showed up for the first Nostalgia wars event - a pretty good showing. There were 6 cars in the N/A class (9.99 and under).

First round I was paired with Al Goodman's altered (see Darryl's video). He lit the red bulb by -.004. We both ran the cars clear out - I clocked an 8.80. Looking at the times, I would have won the race even without his red light.

Second round there was 3 cars. The bye run went to the person with the best reaction time in the previous round. That turned out to be me with my .016, so I got a bye through to the final.

Final round put me against Dave Maynard's "Happy Pappy" '46 Ford pickup truck. Dave got a head start. He had some slippage off the line that slowed him down. I caught him around 1000' and was first at the stripe with an 8.89. I was the N/A winner!

After the 4 classes are completed, they run the 4 winners through 2 rounds to get the final overall winner - the Nostalgia War Zone.

I was paired with the N/B winner - Eric (can't remember his last name...) and his '51 Chevy. Running against a 10 second car is always fun because it seems like an eternity after they leave when you're waiting for your tree. I saw the bottom bulb flash and hit it only to have the tires come completely unglued, then grab. At this point I was completely out of shape so I pedaled it. At that time I looked down track and noticed the win light flashing in the other lane - I had lit the red bulb :x . I aborted the run and idled down the track - our long night was over.

It was a good day - I got to meet Darryl (23t) and talk with him and his wife a bit. Jack (Wheelzman) and Sharon stopped by for a visit. And the little car went a few rounds and actually brought home some money.
