Hey, I got a question for the body shop guys. Rapid, Lippy, Ann E. Body else that's used this stuff.

I made some 1/8" aluminum backing plates for the hinges today. I cut the clips off some ''spring clip nut'' thingys and glued them to the plates with this structural adhesive.

How well does this stuff stick? Is this the same stuff used to glue body panels on newer cars? Just wondering how much I can rely on this stuff & where I can use it. And, wondering how reliable it would be on a vibratin' race car?

Well we use the epoxy that comes in a tube and is applied in a gun that mixes it and has throw away nozzles. If this is the same stuff, only in a tube for more retail sales it will work just fine.

I would not worry about the vibration factor, and for what you used it on here it should work.

Anything you want to stay with a load on it, weld or bolt as always. JMO

I agree with the Rapid one.

Well today I installed 'em. I had to trim them to clear contours inside the door. I ground one down & it got a little hot (Not so hot I couldn't hold it in my hand). The glue gave up. So, I re-glued that one and trimmed the others with the band saw. That worked mucho better. I tried to break 'em off with my thumb (my thumb is purdee' strong ya' know) and they held fine. Maybe it wasn't cured, maybe I should just NOT get them hot. I have a backup plan if this doesn't work, but so far so goota'.

It looks to me like you are just holding the nut to the clip in place while you bolt it from the door jamb. If this is the case I am sure it will work since you won't be on and off all the time anyway.

Now, it definitely isn't what we use. Once ours has cured overnight, it doesn't move. We glue on roof skins, and qt panels with the stuff!!

I still think it is good enough for what you did with it.

I re-glued the one that let go and this time it held o.k. {Maybe because I got the aluminum hot grinding on it}. {Maybe because it spent the night in the shop with the heat off & didn't cure right?} Seems to be o.k. now. Adjusting the hinges I wrenched on them all afternoon & the glue held.

Got a couple hours in on the "Z" again today. I decided to work on gettin' the driver's side door mounted before I go drillin' holes & welding brackets on the pass. side, just to make sure everything iz' copacetic.
