Tell me about your kids...

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

Today is my oldest son Kyle's 23rd birthday! I got home from the gig last night and a full-blown party was in full swing over here. It's still going on, but I have to leave in a few minutes, playing a benefit with the Wildcats at the Cock-Eyed Seagull at 2 for Mark Fenton, the bartender and booking agent over there. Mark is having some health issues and he has helped all of us over the years and never asked for anything in return. I have personally made a couple thousand dollars playing there thanks to him...I put 3 bands together to play this set...Kim Van Zandt from the Wildcats on guitar, Randolph Arrington from the Citykings on bass, and Nick Bockelman, my youngest son, from Blastula on drums. I guess I could say 4 bands since I'm with the Pee Wee Bowen band on guitar and I'll be singing today. I'm going to do 9 original songs that I wrote with the Citykings and Wildcats. No cover material today. It'll be WildcatOne's personal rock 'n roll...Psychedelic Blues-Rock...somewhat lyrically opaque and sometimes funny, but as straight-to-the-point as I can make it. We have already been asked to play another benefit next month at Katie's. Life is good. Cheers, WC1

Have fun, Cat. Sounds like a great gig... you are big enough to get your own songs played as a feature... bp

Thanks, guys...we played a 30-minute set and we did fine. Nick got whoops and cheers for his performance. I slipped him 40 bucks for making the gig. He couldn't hear anything from in the back where he was sitting behind Pete's big drum kit, but he carried a solid beat and did a fine job. Shorttsy pulled me aside and said in his gruff growl, "That little (expletive deleted) played his ass off. He's great!" Made my day. There was a lot more to talk about from this benefit, but this is the kids thread and I just wanted to say that I was proud of my son today. He came through like a champ for Johnny B and the Wildcats. Life is good. WC1
