Thanks Bill, I appreciate it-- You certainly know the lengthy hardcore history of Drag Racing Underground and my unwavering love for the sport... Today is "FEEDBACK FRIDAY", meaning I deal with emails that my assistant Stephanie and I receive from readers... Of course I acknowledge today being Veterans Day... Today is 1/11/11 on the calendar, now deemed "National Metal Day"-- Inspired by the 80s SPINAL TAP movie, where the bass player claimed to turn his amp up to "11" for maximum volume-- I discuss BIG STICK's slightly tongue in cheek ode to metal music titled "The Devil's Jukebox"... Many of you responded to my blog about KCIR, claiming you believe there's still hope to save the drag strip from getting bulldozed into the abyss... I received a flood of emails congratulating me for once again being the most read female blogger on the drag racing internet-- That and much more in today's blog... All too often the stereotype of drag racers of years gone by is mutated and muddled by tall tales on the internet that certainly don't put same racers in much of a good light-- Quite the opposite, stories of grossly illicit behavior have become the norm concerning drag racers of the 60s and 70s... Fortunately, my personal hero, Bruce "USA-1" Larson is living proof that the frequent "low life" portrayal of drag racing's old school drivers is NOT the complete story... There were many successful racers like Larson who didn't subscribe to a "seedy" lifestyle... Today is Bruce's "USA-1 Dragfest" at his Pennsylvania barn... If I wasn't obligated to seven hours of studio mixing today I'd fire up the T-Bird roadster and be there with bells on... If you're within reasonable distance of Larson's barn, I strongly recommend the event, it's truly a FAMILY ORIENTED gathering, so you better leave your booze and smokes at home, 'cause Bruce won't tolerate it... The news of Kenny Bernstein unable to secure enough sponsorship dollars to continue racing for next year's NHRA season is getting lots of attention-- and not much of it good... Instead of some folks showing respect for the long and successful career of one of drag racing's most prominent of veterans, quite the opposite is the disturbing reality of it all-- Kenny and his son Brandon are getting viciously raked over the coals-- I discuss this puzzling and cult like practice that's become so prevalent in our sport with today's blog... Sometimes I come under fire for my patriotism and love for country... I realize that it's not necessarily "chic" among hipsters to love our country as much as I do-- And among some journalists in the mainstream automobile press, it's also no longer "chic" or "hip" to show love for America's auto manufacturers... Well, quite frankly, I don't care what the snooty, nose in the air set thinks... I love FORDS and I'm not ashamed to show it, especially since Ford recently won NHRA's 2011 prestigious Manufacturers Cup... I've got three feisty Fords parked in my garage that I absolutely adore-- And I'm happy to discuss Ford Motor Company's revitalized drag strip success in today's blog...
