...last direct handed-down lineage to Robert Johnson. An amazing and humble magus of the accoustic blues guitar, Mr. Lockwood played 12 string the last years of his career..and made it fill any hall. As this community is noted for being just lousy with great Blues players and scholors ...and I'm justa spunk rocker, I relinquish the floor for some bench racing of the Blues..

RIP, Robert. Of course, it's Robert JUNOR Lockwood... : ) One of the best all time concerts I'd attended is when I won two tickets at the Kent State University radio station in 1982 and saw Robert open for John Lee Hooker at some club downtown Cleveland. Front page table, baby, with John Lee playing right down to the two dorky white dudes in the front row who knew every word to his songs... (and me bro Tim). bp

BP saw the real deal. I saw JLH a couple of times, once in 83 as the opening act for Albert King at the Juneteenth Blues Festival, and one night in the early 90s when I rode my bike downtown and pulled up at a live JLH set.

But I never got to see Robert Jr. Coffee knows the history. There ain't much I can add except that we've lost all of them now. Hang on to your records or purchase CDs that chronicle these great American artists. Without them, the dadgum world just isn't quite as pretty to me, but the music they left behind is immortal. It is the most glorious and realistic celebration of life in all of its varied dimensions that I ever have ever been honored to experience. RIP, Robert. The last Blue Stringer has been called back home. WC1
