It's been a tough week. Today I ran into a guy at work I haven't seen for a long time. He's still a smiling, happy-go-lucky guy, but he had some bad news. Our mutual friend, Gib, who I worked with at Unocal for 23 years, died suddenly a few weeks ago. He was 42. Gib was a great friend and an uplifting presence in an otherwise depressing environment. My wife was particularly fond of Gib, with his bright smile and his easy-going manner. Losing him was a shock and something I would never have expected. My prayers go to his family. May God keep him as close as we always will. WC1

Hi John,
I was doing a search on Gib, and happened across this post. You know, he felt very lucky to have you as his friend. He really respected and admired you so much, and we had great times watching your band play.
It's been a very traumatic time, even as the months go by. I am trying to keep close to God and remember all of the good times Gib and I had together. We were married 17 years when he passed. It was so unexpected and shocking - he was fine just the day before, so I stayed in shock for quite awhile and didn't handle his death well at all.
I have a MYSPACE page that has pictures of Gib and current pics of the girls (they're 17 & 18 now). Here it is if you want to look at it:

Gib would have been so touched by the outpouring of love after his passing. I feel blessed to have had him in my life, if even for a short time.
Take care,
Kris

Kris, thank you for finding this thread and making your post! I know this hasn't been the easiest of times for you, and for that reason it makes your post even more meaningful. I went to the myspace page and saw all the pictures...your daughters are beautiful and they reminded me of Gib in many ways. You are the stunning beauty that Gib introduced me to and who he always adored. I hope for the best, and I also believe that all things happen for a reason. I just want you to know how much I appreciate this opportunity to communicate to you how much we loved Gib and I will never forget the goodness and warmth of his presence and the values of life that he taught me by example. I still play music; I'm playing in the Pee Wee Bowen Band now...a bunch of old guys playing old stuff...and I have been adopted by these drag racers as a hot rod graphics guy who twangs a guitar.
I hope we can keep in touch. You have been in my prayers. John
