Thanks for everything, Mr. Parks. There are not too many people that I get excited to meet and shake their hands. Mr. Parks was in that league. I met him on one of the levels of the Indy tower one year as I was coming in or going out of the media room. I just said, "Thanks for everything, Mr. Parks." I don't remember his repsonse except that it was kind and genuine. He is the father of us all. bp

.....his book Drag Racing, Yesterday and Today clarified what the sport could make out of our society-very impressionable to a young whip in the '60's. One of the few things I was able to salvage out of my housefire a few years back was a photo of Wally with me.
His moral compass transcended any politics. I will remember his admonition about "connivers" and keeping our sport clean. Yes, he was our father...our Abner Doubleday.

I never had the honor to meet or see Wally Parks in person, but he has always been with me as a kind of beacon; a guiding light. Fathering NHRA and bringing it along through good times and bad, he dedicated his life to the advancement and safety of the sport.
Wally Parks was the greatest of a vanishing breed. Rest in Peace, Mr. Parks. We owe you so much for all you did for us. WC1
