An awesome vocalist with power exceeding so many others of his time. Rivalled only by Eric Burdon, Mark Lindsay and Alex Harvey (pre-SAHB). His skill on keyboards and songwriting as well as his interpretations of standards gave the Beatles a run for their money when the Fabs were at the top of their game. The DC5 were a great band; they played all over the world...they started out as members of a soccer team that needed new uniforms, so they put a group together to play a benefit to raise money for that purpose. It turned out they were so good they just kept on playing. Mike Smith's songs and his voice have remained with me through the years as an extremely high standard that I patterned much of my own style on as well as measured others against. The voice is the hardest of all instruments to play, and he was a master. Sing on in Heaven, Mike. Thanks. WC1

He just missed being around for his induction into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. It's OK, though, Mike. That band would never have made it if you hadn't been up front knocking everybody out with those dynamite vocals. WC1
