The last month has taken a serious dent out of ultimate 70s funny car field: Pat Foster, Jim Paoli, and now Leroy Chadderton. I was a bit too young to witness Leroy's dominating Fuel Altered exploits, but I remember him running super tough in the Hawaiian and then in the Chadderton and Okazaki Vega, which at one time, was second quickest only to Prudhomme at the World Finals one year. RIP, Leroy. bp

Chadderton won the Smokers AA/FA title in 1966. He was one of the 1st altereds to legitmately crack 200 on more then one occassion in 1968. In late 1970, he debuted what was to become the first legit 6 second altered by means of constructing a car that was to serve as the mold for future altereds: The J&M Speed Shop Spl. Chadderton was a local Pomona street racer, who made good.
