He was always a lot of fun to watch in the movies. His pal Burt Reynolds cast him both as a good guy and a bad guy in various film and he excelled at both. Can't speak too much to his music outside of what they played in the movies. I'm sure he had some hits in the 70s, but I can't recall them. Can anyone elaborate? Thanks. bp

Jerry Reed personified the network of contradictions that embody a Country Music Star from his era (Roger Miller, Ray Stevens, Roy Clark, Glenn Campbell, et al...)...his image as a good ol' boy from way Down South...true, he was all that...was all at once wiped away when he picked up a musical instrument and played it as good or better than any ten others combined...and he'd nod, wink and have a chuckle while he did it...I saw this guy play and he's one of the best I ever saw in any style. In country music, you used to have to be able to really play in order to make a career out of it...not only did Jerry Reed play extraordinarily well, he also wrote, produced, performed and promoted his own music...and that for and of others as well. He absolutely made the most out of it. Yes, he partied through the movies with Burt Reynolds and they had fun (so did Sally Field), but Jerry Reed was a KING-PIN guitar player, first and foremost...The best musicians in the world are playing country music, folks...thanks to guys like Jerry Reed and a handful of artists who paved the way for these mega-million-dollar fabrications touring the world nowadays...he's one of the most significant cornerstones of modern country. God bless and rest in peace.

No doubt about it, thanks, Danny. I heard Jerry Reed's licks show up in songs by Dire Straits, Yes, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, Bon Jovi and The Eagles, to name but a few...I was startled when I saw him play...lightning-quick, digitally precise, amazing dexterity, with twang, tone and a tincture of country humor thrown in to keep it fun...he was incredible...a virtuoso with personality added...Cat
