One of my favorite "British Invasion" pop stars of the 60s. He personified the unabashed exuberance and joy that the "Merseybeat" groups brought to the world along with Beatlemania in the black-and-white newsprint dream world I lived in back then. He was funny, talented, and very entertaining on top of having a pretty dang good band backing him up. His representation of the shy, nerdy geek with glasses who is set absolutely free by the power of music was something I related to then and now as well. His influence was spread around across the world to a lot of bands that made it in his wake...Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Jackson, Madonna, MC Hammer, Faith No More and others displayed moves, stage shows and visuals that Freddie and the Dreamers made popular...I'm sure they'd deny that, but they can't delete the archives...There was only one Freddie. My older sister Diana had the Do the Freddie album and other girly stuff like the New Christy Minstrels, etc. But I definitely thought Freddie and the Dreamers put out some fun, exuberant pop stuff. Sort of like a real day Austin Powers... RIP, Freddie. bp
