Compressed air instead of a supercharger

Hi people,

years ago I saw an old article about a drag car that did not have a supercharger but the air to feed the engine came from multiple compressed airtanks. The compressed air went through a high flow reducer and them was fed to the engine.

I was trying to find more information about this car but can't find it.

Anyone around who knows more about this unique way of supercharging??

Gator,

what isn't dangerous, this year showed us all that going fast is dangerous enough.
Still looking for an artikel/photo's of that car.

Any help is welcome,

thanks.

Thought this would be a lot faster then looking through 28 years of
HOT ROD Magazine

Didn't Big Daddy D.G. experiment with that set-up?

Incredible, it only took a mere 3 hours on this forum to find what I was looking for and also that the man, Don Garlits was the one who tried this unique setup.

Well thanks for this, I can search more direct now.

wasn't large Father it was Art Malone the car is in Big's museum.........really Kooky car........had a HUGE compressed air tank that ran the length of the car from the drivers foot box to the front axle the car looks like conventional front engined car from the cowl forward........but then the motor is mount side winder style behind the driver and the crank is used as the axle with the wheels mounted to it............had a hilbrn looking injection intake with two huge tubes running around the cage and hooked to the tank valves.........feet of engineering indeed.........I think it ran only once or twice.the car launched ahrd then the crank broke.........nd after they got that figured out they found that the compressed air was not enough to make it run well.........and it was shleved somehow Big got the car and restored it.........ERIK
