One of the greatest sports plays that will live in infamy was an ironic one. The famous audio we here with the play was not original that goes with the video. The audio was from a radio broadcast not TV, there were several broadcasts of the game that day. There were national and local radio broadcasts, the Giants had their own as did the Dodgers, along with TV and Spanish too. It seems the biggest names were broadcasting like Red Farmer and Jack Buck.
A die hard Brooklyn fan recorded the audio of the Giants broadcast from the game over the radio to have the moment the Dodgers win the pennant as a keepsake and to gloat a little. What the gentleman got was Bobby Thomsan hitting the famed home run into the short Polo Grounds left field bleachers only around 290 feet from home plate! The center field reached 400 plus feet to the offices and fieldhouse.
This became one of the most famous sports moments of the 20th century allowing Bobby Thomson to be more than just another forgotten baseball when he passed. RIP Bobby Thomson.
