Sush was a terrific drag racer who made a huge splash in both Fuel Altered and Funny Car racing. And another in a long line of influential Japanese American drag racers who've contributed so much to the sport. RIP, Sush. bp

The Matsubara and Mondello Fiat Altered was one of my favorite cars. Sush Matsubara has always been held in the highest esteem in our sport. RIP, Sush. You were one of our greatest men. WC1

To young to ever get to see him run, but I've read lots and lots about him. Sounds like a hell of a man and one who will be long remembered.

..a winner in life

..saw him run a few times; didn't hang around the P&M pits, but those who did tell me he was really pretty humble. He liked to work, to win and hanging out with people. His humility would be a great influence on racers today. I understand he had a pool cleaning biz..cuz he liked cleaning pools! Reading about him cleaning house w/ Joe P. in S. Cal open meets circa '74 was a fun Drag News read for this H.S. freshman.
