Are gapless rings (perfect circle) worth the money?
I'm getting ready to put my race motor back togeather and I don't know weather to run gapless, moly, or just cast rings. I don't make a ton of HP so is it worth the expence.
Help me deside guy and gals.

Ok, sounds like a dumb question. I HEARD that you have to hone the bores differantly for gapless. Is that true.

Robbie, I think there is probably something to be gained from them at certain power levels. At what level, I am not sure. I think the different hone is related to cyl clearance with this style ring. I know I have heard some stories of ring flutter in the upper ring due to the sizing of the 2nd ring.
If you go to InsideTopAlcohol.com, search the tech threads and you will find some info on them.
AJ also may have some thoughts if he checks in. We used to use them, and now we don't.

We've used them over the years in the KB and now I'm using them in the Donovan. At the time it just seemed like a good idea, and they seem to work well - we always had pretty decent leak downs with them. I believe it reduces the amount of fuel that ends up in the oil pan, seems like we can get a bit more runs on an oil change.

I've used them in my last three engines and like them.
Heck I save on oil changes as it's not easy to dilute the oil with alcohol
