In my opinion, the greatest rock 'n roll entertainer who ever lived...not to mention his band, the Blue Caps...the wildest, most intense, souped-up rock 'n roll band ever...he died young but he left a legacy that was unmatched in scope outside of Elvis. His music was a complete summation of the rock 'n roll loner ethos: Girls, cars, racing, lonely highways, guitars, raising hell, nothing and nobody was safe when Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps invaded a town. His career and his life certainly did not start and end with "Be Bop A-Lula", but it did hit a commercial peak. I have all his albums and I could hear immediately, that guy caught a spark and ran with it. His influence on me since I discovered his awesome recordings is indescribable...Check him out if you haven't already. RIP, Gene, you are not forgotten. WC1

Thanks, Cat. I missed this on my first pass through. I'm excited to go to my nephew's wedding today... on tap: Citykings CDs for him, his brother (a great young guitarist in his own right), and my brother Tim... soon to be three more converts! bp

Every time I hear "Be Bop A-Lula" I get a little smile on my face and I have no idea why. Maybe it was the sound, I don't know. Great song. Thanks Cat.

I understand Gene spent time up here in the Great Northwest. My friend Ace runs an Oldies record store on 6th ave. in Tacoma that's a virtual Rock n' Roll museum. He has a corner fully decked-out as a Gene Vincent tribute. Absolutely, the coolest.
