Headers for my 66 Fairlane

Hi Bill, my name is Mike Loyning and I am writing in regaurds to finding a set of headers for my 1966 Fairlane. I was referred to Jack Davis headers from a guy named Stephen Johnson. I understand he runs Jack Davis headers on his 67 427FE four speed Fairlane. The Hooker Super Comps just don't have big enough primary tubes for my engine. My engine is a 390 FE bored and stroked to 445, 11.25:1 compression and solid roller camshaft. You should know as well I will be running a TKO600 five speed transmission. I contacted Stephen after reading about his car in the March 2005 issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords. It shows his car doing a wheelstand with a perfect view of the headers and I'd like to run those same ones on my car if I could. Any info on this subject will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Bill.
Sincerely, Mike Loyning loyning20@yahoo.com

I'd prolly have a custom set built.....that way, you get the primary size you desire, PLUS they "should" be made to fit......We start off with a "kit" and custom fab from there.....then we send 'em off to be coated......Good Luck! 8)

8) When I ran 427s-even Tunnel Ports in the Big Animal I used Hookers # 6205 with 1 7/8 tubes and 3 1/2 collectors. The 4000 lb. Big Animal 57 Merc with the Tunnel Port, (I had two identical TP engines one with a .651 General kinetics flat tappet and one with a special grind Crower Roller .622 lift.) Both engines ran the same. Mid 11's 120 to 126 mph. Stock rockers, Accell duel point, Super Coil, 2 660 Holley Center Squirters with 50 cc pumps and spaced 4". Stock Ford TP pistons and LeMans Rods. Simple engine. 600 hp. :)

4 speed Top loader-5:43 gears. A fun ride. The Hookers did the job fine for bracket racing.

In 75 I had a 71 Comet-with same engines-I did try Hooker 6395s with 2 1/8 primaries 30-38 length and 3 1/2 no flange headers. This car was for local heads up pro Stock class. Comet was 2700 lbs. Awesome power-I crashed it before I could really wring it out. Detroit Locker malfunctioned and locked one axle only! In 4th. Gear!! -  Goodbye!!!

The 6395 Hookers where also used by SS ace /record holder Jeff Velde in his 69 Mustang, Sam Johnson in his 427 MR 67 Fairlaine and Bruce Miller's record holding D/A 428 69 Mustang. I know they did lot of experimenting with tube extentions and collectors. 8)

Jim & Ray Paquet is someone else to ask about headers. I have Jim's number-I think it is still good. 517-663-0578. He owns Jim's Performance Transmissions in Eaton Rapids, MI. Ray & Jim were famous for T-Bolts. Both are Ford FE icons in NHRA sportsman classes.

I was born in 41!!!??? F---k-I'm Old!!    8)

I will tell this however-lot of what worked 30 years ago still does!

Don't overlook good old fashion baseline common sense to present hype/buzz word ideas and popular marketing-but do take advantage modern techknowlegy if to your advantage.
