Drag racing isn't always about the cars.

NHRA Funny Car driver Ron Capps was a big draw in Jeff Gaynor's car but they couldn't nail down a good setup for the slippery, hot track.

NE1 Jim Scott qualified 16th then lost to eventual winner Dan Schrokosch in the Semi-Final round.

AA/GS Gordon Veal's beautiful '41 Willys lap of 7.125 sec 191.97 mph was good enough for the 7th spot.

Mike Adam's '79 Vette Funny Car qualified 5th and lost a close 2nd Round race to eventual winner Larry Pettit.

B/Gas Kevin Riley took advantage of opponent's mistakes in the early rounds. Kevin beat a tough Eric Bush in the Final Round with a MOV: 0.0190 seconds (approximately 4 feet).

Junior Fuel B winner John Rasmussen won at Sonoma and repeated that feat at Pomona.

Mike Savage in the new Speed Sport 2 Funny Car nailed the #3 qualifying spot with a stout 6.234 sec 230.76 mph effort.
