46th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals - Part 2

By Robert Briggs

F/C Robert Hight wasn't qualified until his fourth and last attempt on Saturday when he ran a 4.793 sec 323.35 mph run good enough for the 12th position. Robert went on to win the event.

Pro Stock Greg Anderson qualified #1, won the event and his 6.665 seconds and top speed of 207.75 mph are track records.

After qualifying #7 in Top Alcohol Dragster with a 5.416 sec 261.88 mph lap Richard Putz red lights (-0.160) and pulls a giant wheelstand in Round One. Round goes to opponent Bob Perkins.

Talk about gettin' your doors blown off. Stock Eliminator Mike Williams lost his ... and it was during a burnout! The competition was tough at the Winternationals.

T/F Clay Millican was Melonie Troxel's first victim in Round One.

School is back in session. Pro Stock Warren Johnson has returned for another season. Warren qualified #3 with a 6.680 sec 207.43 mph. Warren lost a very close Round Two race to Mike Edwards.

On the way to her first Top Fuel national event win, at the Winternationals no less, she put an end to Tony Schumacher's "reign of terror" with a great Round Two race, 0.097 4.524 sec 325.77 mph to Tony's 0.101 4.530 sec 321.96 mph.

Stock Eliminator Mark Tallent's beautiful '72 E/SA Mustang's race ended with a red light in Round Four.

Top Fuel Bob Vandergriff's 4.659 sec 296.05 mph run was 0.002 sec too slow to make the Show.

Top Alcohol Dragster Ashley Force lost in Round Two to Sean O'Bannon after qualifying #11 with a 5.447 sec 259.71 mph run.

F/C Whit Bazemore lost to Bob Gilbertson in Round One. Whit had beat Bob in 12 straight previous races.

T/F Scott Weis ran a 4.736 sec 301.13 but it was only good for 20th spot. He needed to beat 4.657 sec to make this year's Show.
