Gulitti's Gang: The Texas Quick 8 Assocation

After the Texas Outlaw Pro Stocks disbanded, George Gulitti began promoting the Texas Quick 8 Association. New faces and new rides joined the old faces, who also updated their machines. TQ8A raced into the new millinium at tracks like Kennedale and Denton, Texas, bringing Pro Mod action to the masses.

Tommy Adams' venerable 1969 Camaro had been a race car since being brand new. The car ran 4.59 at 156.37 before being destroyed in a 2003 accident.

Wayne Barlow joined the TQ8A with this super-sano Camaro. The car had a Bruno Trans with a singe carb 572 c.i. Hans Fuestal combo. It ran a 4.82, 145 best with one victory.

Danny Bazan's 67 Camaro was a P/STer that ran a TQRA race or two. The 3000 lb. Camaro ran 5.19 at 139.50.

Don and Booby Booth's killer 37 Chevrolet flies. The Pontiac powered Alfred Whiteside built car has run a 4.07, 175 pass.

The late Jim Brooks in his "Big Jim" Lumina. The car was powered by a Hans Fuestal built 707 Pontiac that ran 4.30 at 165.

The Ron Curley driven Curley Bros. match racer. The big Chevelle ran 4.79 at 148 way back when. Now the Curleys are involved in the Outlaw Top Sportsman group.

Brett Hasara did not race this ex-Jimmy Freeman Lumina for long. The best times with the cast iron block 540 Chevy were 4.87 at 145.

Grant Hensley's "G-Force" 92 Trans Am ran as quick as 4.41 at 161.

Junior Herron's match race Camaro fram Balch Springs. The car ran a best of 4.63 at 153 in TQ8A racing.

Scott Herzog in the ex Carolyn Melendy Camaro. Herzog got the car to run 4.30s.

Jerry Hicks ran 4.39 at 167 in the ex Ed Burnley, ex Landon Jordan Camaro. This car has been much updated and is currently run by Chris Smith.

The multi purpose Cutlass of Russel Marr. He raced TQ8A, Q8 doorlammer, and Super Pro all in one night with this car! The machine has 4.90, 141 bests.

Chassis builder Nathan Martin in the killer "Stove Parts" Firebird. The car was one of the fastest at the time with a 4.18, 169 clocking.

Chuck Poindexter's killer LUV that has run 4.90 at 143. This was the loudest P/M of its time!

Dennis Rogers' "River Rat" Camaro in a rare North Texas appearance. The Camaro ran 4.72 before Dennis bult a P/ST Camaro.

J.R. Sandian could be described as the John Force of Pro Mods with his outgoing personality. There was never a dull moment with this bunch.

Jamie Saterwhilte in the "Cold Duck III," a 69 Camaro than ran an eighth mile 4.40 at 166.

The late Carl Silmon took some weight out of his P/ST Camaro to run with the TQ8A. The car could run, too, with 4.42, 161 capability.

The "Bad Gee" match racer, driven by Garry Stephenson, was not a regular TQ8A racer but joined them at Denton to run 5.05, 134 times. The Camaro was totaled in an accident.

Here is Freddie Taylor's 68 Camaro with "Thriller" (a.k.a. Elijah Burgson) driving. This auto trans Camaro ran 4.63 at 155. The team now runs Outlaw 10.5.
