Diesel Dragster Hits the 7s at 180
By Eric McBride
Scheid Diesel Motorsports achieved what no other diesel has on the planet Saturday. The Terre Haute based team’s diesel-powered dragster went 7.55 seconds at 183 mph in a quarter mile during the Zag Outlaw Nationals at Mountain Park Dragway in Clay City, KY.
The Scheid team has struggled for two years getting the unbelievable torque-producing power of their diesel engine to the ground. Crew Chief Andrew Marrietta and owner Dan Scheid have re-constructed the dragster several times, finally landing a promising combination.
Driver Eric McBride of Redkey, Indiana said that it was a much needed morale boost to go that fast. He also mentioned that the 183 mph was on track for the team to reach its ultimate goal of being the first diesel to go 200 mph in the quarter mile.
The Scheid Diesel Motorsports Silverline/Edge Products dragster will make exhibition runs this Sunday at Wabash Valley Dragway in Terre Haute, Indiana during the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza.
