World Fuel Altered Nationals

Text by "Rapid" Randy Baker ~ Photos by Al Booton

Shades of the old 554 coupe, but on the East Coast thus the 334 coupe!

Kevin Newberg and Randy Baker started off the action with Newberg winning with a 4.22 to Baker's off pace 4.87.

The first ever WORLD FUEL ALTERED NATIONALS was completed this past Saturday at Eddyville Raceway Park in Oskaloosa, Iowa. 14-cars from all over the United States made the trip to see who would be the king of the hill at the end of the weekend.

The 334 Coupe.

"The Boogie Man" Fiat featured an early style Chysler Hemi.

The Friday night qualifying session was rained out. Saturday brought cloudy skies and cool temperatures. There were a few mini-showers off and on throughout the morning and into the middle of the afternoon. At 3:00PM it became evident there was no way to get in a complete elimination ladder. The drivers meeting was held and decided to run a modified Chicago style format. There would be 1-qualifying session. The 4-quickest cars would come back for the 1st round. The final pair would advance to the final.

Check out the weird headers on this Chevy powered altered!

Jack Heslink's Mike Bos built car made the trip from Texas but did not make the final four.
