Thomas Motorsports Fields New Outlaw Top Sportsman Car
By Danny White
Thomas Motorsports of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, has added an Outlaw Top Sportsman car in addition to their Firebird. Ken and Jeff Thomas have teamed with Clarksville, Texas, resident Heath Harvey to field a 1993 Grand Am. Heath has raced a dragster in Super Pro for the last few years, the same car that Ken Thomas raced in the early nineties. This is the first doorslammer Heath has raced. The Grand Am was raced on the Texas Outlaw Pro Stock circuit by Richard Aaron and in the Texas Quick 8 Association by the Torrance family with drivers such as Charles Wooten and Gaylen Smith. The car had been parked for years after changing hands a couple of times. Ken Thomas previously bought the engine out of the car for his Firebird. The car now features a 565 inch Chevy built by Ken Thomas with a shot of nitrous.
Heath Harvey made his debut with the Outlaw Top Sportsman at Kennedale two week ago. The first couple of runs were to get to used to the car. On the last qualifying pass, Harvey broke into the fours with a 4.84. Harvey faced race car builder Alfred Whiteside and the "Da Dog" Camaro in the first round. Harvey won with a 4.75 on the 4.70 index. In the second round, he redlit by .003 to the night’s eventual winner, H.T. Wilson. Look for the Thomas and Harvey team to improve and win a race this year.
