GLENDORA, Calif. (June 8, 2005) - Jonathan Adams has been named NHRA Northwest Division Director (Div. 6), it was announced today by Graham Light, NHRA senior vice president for race operations.

In his new position, Adams, 28, will manage the competition at the 19 NHRA-member facilities in the Northwest Division, which includes tracks located in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Among his responsibilities include coordination of NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional and national events and NHRA Summit Racing Series events. In addition, he will provide consultation to track operators at all NHRA-member facilities in the division as well as supervise the development of new race track activity.

"Jonathan's knowledge in promoting and organizing events will ensure continued success in the Northwest Division," Light said. "His experience in a variety of different areas in drag racing, including race operations, media relations, safety and sales and marketing makes him a highly qualified candidate for the position."

Adams spent the last nine years working in operations at Woodburn Dragstrip near Portland, Ore. Since Aug. 1999 he also has been a contract employee of NHRA, working as a certification specialist in Div. 6.

"I can't wait to get started," Adams said. "I have lived in the Northwest my entire life, so it's an honor for me to become the next Director of the Northwest Division.  I am confident that I can pick up where Mike Rice left off, and continue to expand and improve Division 6. I hope to make the NHRA experience more enjoyable for everyone in Division 6 -- competitors, sponsors, track operators and fans."

Adams attended the University of Oregon and lives in Woodburn, Ore.
