Clay Smith Cams Celebrates Diamond Anniversary
BUENA PARK, Calif. (June 21, 2005) – A famous advertising slogan once stated, “You’ve come a long way, baby,” and for the legendary Clay Smith Engineering, Inc. that saying rings true as the company celebrates its 75th anniversary.
Founded in 1930, the company initially specialized in hand-ground cam shafts for the ultimate in performance. While the cam shaft is still the backbone of the business, they have a complete showroom of high performance products for your boat or automotive engine. Additionally, an extensive line of clothing and accessories which feature the legendary “Mr. Horsepower,” the red woodpecker mascot with a cigar clenched in his beak that is recognized around the world.
Over the years Clay Smith Engineering has expanded to include a comprehensive selection of high performance products to help their customers maximize performance for nearly any type of vehicle, including racing applications, street rods, and marine uses. Today, besides the legendary cam shafts, customers can find the best in oil and fuel pumps, pushrods, rockers, and much more.
While there have been several changes to the business over the past 75 years, one thing remains the same – the best customer service in the industry.
“The best thing that we do is take care of our customers,” stated Sherry Striegel, co-owner. “We will never dodge a customer; they can even ask for Dad (George Striegel, Clay Smith Cams president) and he will get right on the phone to answer any questions or take care of any issues facing a customer. You know, in all the years we have been in business I am not sure that there is anyone that would bad-mouth us. We have a very good reputation and we try to treat everyone just like we would want to be treated.”
To help celebrate the milestone, Clay Smith Engineering has developed a line of limited-edition 75th anniversary merchandise which includes Tee Shirts, pendants and decals. This complements their regular offerings of Mr. Woodpecker clothing, pins, patches, and other items.
