Home-Cooked Traditional Southern Barbeque, Cruise-In, Car Show, and A Weekend Of Drag Racing Nostalgia with a “Heapin’ Helpin’ of Southern Hospitality” at the Drag Times East Coast Hall of Fame, Oct. 14-16, Henderson, North Carolina!

Henderson, NC  -- If you love slow-smoked, traditional Southern barbeque, the fun of a Friday night cruise-in, a city-full of classic hot rods, musclecars and antiques, and bench racing sessions with some of drag racing’s all-time legendary figures, the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame weekend is definitely for you!

Held in and around the charming city of Henderson, this fourth-annual event has grown to become one of the east coast’s premier drag racing nostalgia attractions, and a jewel in the crown of motorsports-rich North Carolina.  The 2005 edition is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 14-15-16, and a host of festivities are guaranteed to keep any hot rod and drag racing enthusiast busy for three days.

Beginning Friday, Oct. 14 is the barbeque cookout and “Show, Shine, Shag and Drag”, hosted by Superior Chrysler Dodge-Jeep, in Henderson.  This begins at 12:00 noon, runs until 7:00 pm, and everyone’s welcome.  For true barbeque fans, reviews of last year’s North Carolina Piedmont style barbeque cuisine ranged from “excellent” to “outstanding”! These accolades came from folks who know and appreciate great Southern ‘que!  Also on tap for Friday is a cruise-in and movie at Raleigh Road Outdoor Drive-In Theater, a genuine, old-time, 50’s style drive-in movie!  Harris Incorporated will present a Best in Show award.  Cruisers will also assemble at Andy’s Cheesesteak Restaurant for a Best in Show award.  For Hall of Fame inductees and car show guests there will be receptions at all host hotels, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn and Jameson Inn, Exit 212 off I-85.

Saturday’s main event could easily be called “The Hot Rod Show That Ate Henderson”, meaning that the entire downtown Main Street area and side streets of scenic Henderson will be turned into a pedestrian mall filled with some of the finest hot rods, street rods, musclecars and restored antique autos in the Southeast.  Registration for the show begins at 7:00 am and the show runs through 4:30 pm.  At 2:00 pm Al Williams and The Assembly Band will entertain until 5:00 pm.  Beginning at 8:00 pm until 12:00 midnight The Joe Pope Tams will provide their unique style of 50’s entertainment along with an old fashioned soda fountain and finger foods, all for just $20.00 admission at the Vance-Granville Civic Center, I-85, exit 209.

On Sunday, October 16, the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame reunion, scrapbook festival and autograph session begins at 10:00 am and runs until 12:30 pm.  At 12:30 pm the 2005 induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame inductees and awards presentation begins, and concludes at 3:30 pm with a photo session of all 2005 inductees, past inductees, plus other celebrities and dignitaries.  The Hall of Fame ceremonies are conducted at the Vance-Granville Civic Center, Exit 209 off I-85, in Henderson.
