The Future of Nostalgia Drag Racing
By Troy Coker
Indianapolis, IN. – February 13, 2006 - Announcing the Midwest’s and East Coast’s newest drag racing association to be known as: The Nostalgia Pro Comp Association (NPCA). The NPCA will be the first series of its kind anywhere in the country. This association has been formed embracing the ideals of NHRA’s original Pro Comp category, only with a few twists. The NPCA will feature three types of race cars all running in three separate “capped” (indexed) classes. These car types include Front Engine Dragsters, pre ‘79 Funny Cars, and Altereds which will compete for prize money, points and contingencies in the following classes: Super Eliminator (6.50), Pro Comp I (7.00), and Pro Comp II (7.50) with ambitions of eventually hosting a Nitro Eliminator (6.00) class.
These “capped” classes will allow a “run what ya brung” format regardless of engine size, blower type, transmission, fuel pump, tire size, etc. There will be a no electronics policy just as in any other form of nostalgia drag racing. All cars will be inspected and must comply with current NHRA rules. NPCA has commitments from Indianapolis Raceway Park to host a three race championship series to be held in conjunction with their current E.T. Series. The NPCA race schedule is April 22 and 23, July 23, and September 9 and 10 which is the weekend after the U.S. Nationals. The fourth and season ending championship race series finals will be held at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois on September 23 in combination with Rick Krafft’s Match Race Madness event.
The NPCA feels there is a need to organize nostalgia drag racing that is east of the Rocky Mountains, with the help and support of IRP, ARC Racing Engines, Rooman Motorsports, the NPCA membership and its supporters; we are looking forward to the future of nostalgia drag racing.
In addition to the championship race series, the NPCA plans to take the show on the road to various booked in events throughout the Midwest and East Coast.
