For Immediate Release - York, PA Momentous days of racing will be relived on July 7-8th at the York Expo Center, York Fairgrounds when Cloister Wash & Lube presents the Fifth Annual York US 30 Musclecar Madness.
Don Garlits "The King of the Dragsters" returns to York for the first time since York US 30 Dragway was closed in 1979. Garlits' accomplishments would take countless pages to list. He will have his famous Swamp Rat 1B dragster and will be available for the weekend to sign autographs and chat with his many fans.
Debuting at this year's show will be the beautiful and famous “Tin Indian" '66 Pontiac GTO of Arlen Vanke that ran out of Knafel Pontiac in Akron, Ohio. The car was recently completed as a complete restoration per the specs from Akron Arlen.
Another car to debut at York is the altered wheelbase Plymouth of Lee Smith who likewise assisted Jim Welch of Bartlett, Illinois in resurrecting this '65 Mopar that competed at the Woodstock of Drag Racing the '65 Super Stock Nationals at York US 30 Dragway.
An action packed weekend includes Legion of Honor awards to twelve deserving recipients whose contributions to our performance heritage will be recognized with an individual award and their names placed on a perpetual award that will be placed on display in the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing at York Springs, PA in perpetuity. This year's recipients are Frank LeSueur, Pee Wee Wallace, Bill Stiles, Paul Blevins, Dan Jesel, Wayne Jesel, "Rapid Red" Lang, Tom Raley, Pat Bilbow (posthumous), Don Garlits, Dick Belfatti, and Charlie Hill (posthumous).
The show has become the annual reunion for the Legends of Drag Racing a group that includes Joe Jacono, Bernie Agaman, Paul Mayo, George Cureton, Jerry Baltes, Charlie Seabrook, Jack Werst, Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, Jungle Pam, Bud Faubel, Tom Sneden, Sam Auxier, Jr., Dick Brannan, Al Joniec, Roger Lindamood, Ed Miller, Ed Hedrick, Bruce Larson, Wally Bell, Jim & Alison Lee, and the list goes on.
Outside "Cruisin Into Summer" will include expanded activities for the giant two day cruise in on the West Plaza with a DJ for both days and contests and prizes. The York County Corvette Club will have their Fun Show with over 100 of the East's finest Corvettes.
America's First and Only 100% portable AWD Chassis Dyno will be on hand to take all the horsepower that any of the entrants can dish out.
Admission to this over 800 vehicle extravaganza is only $20.00 for a special discount two day ticket or $12.00 for a single day. Children under 12 are free and free parking.
The charity of choice for the show is the York County SPCA who recently opened their new facilities in York. Proceeds from People's Choice voting, 50-50's, and a live auction at 6 p.m. Saturday anticipating a record contribution by the show.
