South Georgia Motorsports Park to present Southern Nostalgia Shootout

Plan on attending the biggest nostalgia event this side of Bowling Green this fall when South Georgia Motorsports Park presents the Southern Nostalgia Shootout on October 27-29, 2006. Conveniently located on Interstate 75 thirty-two miles north of the Florida state line, SGMP is located approximately one and a half hours north of major east-west Interstate 10. The event is scheduled between the Nostalgia events at Henderson, North Carolina and Bradenton, Florida. Plan on making a nostalgia vacation and hit all three events!

Headlining the event is the number one drag racer of all time, Big Daddy Don Garlits. Don is bringing one of his Swamp Rat fuelers to make some smoky launches and participate in the cackle display Saturday night. The event will feature pre-1976 drag races, a car show, swap meet, car corral, and the cackle event.

Racing will be conducted on the SGMP all-concrete quarter mile. Categories include: Front-engined Dragsters, Funny Car, Altered/Comp, Gassers, Classic Super Stock, Quick 100, Flathead/Inline, and Baddest of the Bad - a heads up category for run what you brung. NHRA safety rules will be strictly enforced in all categories.

The car show, limited to pre-1976 vehicles, will include trophies in several categories: Hot Rod, Street Rod, Rat Rod, Custom, Muscle Car, Pre-76 Truck, Special Interest, and Classic Fifties. Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum will sponsor a special trophy for the best Muscle Car.

Swap Meet, Vendor Spaces, and Car Corral spaces will also be available on a first-come, first served basis. Plan on registering early if you are interested! Tired of rainouts? October is one of the driest months in this region, and temperatures will be warm but reasonable.

Other racers expected to participate include Denny Fenstermaker with his restored Roger Gates fueler, the Michigander top fueler, Bunky Bobo with the award winning Hemi Hurricane Willys, the Prock and Howell flip-top Willys, Al Hoffman, Ed and Tammy Fargo, the Classic Gassers, and many more. Announcer for the event is Marvin Noel.

Additional information on the track and a registration form is available on line at SGMPracing.com. For other race information, contact Mark Adams at (229) 253-1025. For show information, contact David Dean at (229) 460-2463. Cackle event participants should contact Denny Fenstermaker at (229) 253-0465. The host motel is the Sleep Inn at Exit 18 on Interstate 75. Call (229) 671-1111 and be sure to mention the Southern Nostalgia Shootout.
