Dyer's Last Hurrah
Photos by Tom Kasch
Gary Dyer was one of the founding fathers of funny cars. But like other early funny car racers he too switched to the Pro Stock class in the 1970s. But unlike the other racers, Gary chose this Hemi Colt, one of the evil handling "AA/Fuel Altereds of the Doorslammers." The little Norm Krause owned beauty was built by Romeo Palamides. The Hemi Colts were banned for NHRA Pro Stock and had to race in NHRA comp and match racing. Dyer could be seen competing at UDRA races in the Midwest.
