OTS Returns to Redline Raceway

Kenny Duke made his return to OTS racing with a new all black paint job, but Duke broke on his two attempts in qualifying.

Ritchie Price ran a 4.71 on a test pass but broke on his only qualifying run.

The Outlaw Top Sportsman returned to Redline Raceway in Caddo Mills for the first time in 2008. It was the group’s third race of the season with David Moser and Chris Dollar winning the first two. Thirteen teams attempted to qualify for the eight-car field. It should be mentioned that it was a miracle that the race happened as seven inches of rain hit the track earlier in the week. The Redline track manager Jerry Goss and his crew had the track in top shape when the race began.

Eric Clark could not tame the blown Bird enought o get into the field.

The first round of qualifying began with Ed Roach and David Baldwin pairing off with one another. Roach ran 133.75 to Baldwin’s 4.82 142.89 to open qualifying. Richie Price had problems in his Camaro running an off pace 6.03 82.92 against the near perfect 4.70 141.75 of Texas Raceway winner Chris Dollar. Price ran 4.73 in testing before the race, while Chris Dollar is now driving the car that Tommy Keeter won the 2007 OTS championship.

Frank Kohotek made his OTS debut in Donnie Burnside's Cavalier.

David Baldwin qualified with a 4.80 in his awesome lloking Corvette.

Mat Thomas almost ran a dead on pass with a 4.70 146.53 in his Firebird while his opponent David Smith ran a tire spinning 4.84 143.22 in his 55 Chevrolet. The 4.70 got Thomas in the second spot. Kenny Duke broke in the staging lanes allowing David Moser to single on his 4.79 147.98run.

Melamie Cain could not back up her runner up finish at Denton but ran a4.85 ona 4.84 bump.

Chuck Poindexter soled next in the XS-Luv with a 5.46 122.98. Poindexter just made it to the race after breaking his blower and having to borrow one from Gaylen Smith. Former NHRA Super Comp world champion Frank Kohutek made his OTS debut in Donnie Burnside’s Cavalier. Kohotek ran 4.80 135.50 on his sol pass in the former Kurt Johnson owned car.

David Smith is back with his flamed 55 Chevy.

It is the XS Luv for sure! Chuck Poindexter was a DNQ tonight.

Eric Clark took on Denton runner up Melanie Cain. In the battle of blown cars, one roots and Clark’s centrifugal. Clark got there first with a 5.02 109.36 while Cain crossed the center line in the Cain’s Concrete Trans Am. Gerald Heferich made return to OTS with a 4.84 14368 run in his Olds Calais to gather the number eight spot.

Chris Dollar won tonight and the night before in the wild flamed Firebird.

Jeff Heferich ran his first OTS in four year, he fouled in the first round running a 4.65.

The second round of qualifying began with Kenny Duke having to be shut down after his burnout in his repainted Lumina, Mat Thomas had troubles off the line and ran a 4.83.David Baldwin was able to improve on his earlier 4.81 with a 4.80 143.49 in his beautiful 1963 Corvette. Gerald Heferich ran a tire shaking 5.19 140.41 in the DA Electric Calais.

Chris Dollar ran under the 4.70 index next with a 4.68 151.87 in his flamed Firebird while Frank Kohotek had troubles on his 5.11 139.36 pass. NHRA Nationals Event winners Tommy Phillips and Melvin Goss were helping Kohotek in Donnie Burnside’s Cavalier.

Ed Roach lost in he first round but ran a test lap of 4.71 latr.

The next two racers went under the index on their runs David Miser ran 4.67 148.47 in his ex Ritchie Stevens Firebird and Ed Roach ran 4.68 150.60in Big Ed’s Racing Firebird. Two racer outside of the show was next Chuck Poindexter also went too quickly with a 4.68 152.90 pass and Eric Clark ran 4.85 131.40 in the Clark Bros Trans Am.

Mat Thomas made it ti the finals for the second night in a row.

Thomas won their first round race over Roach.

Two solo ended the second round of qualifying David Smith ran a good 4.78 143.72 in the awesome looking Smith Racing 55 Chevrolet. Melanie Cain ended the round with a chuteless 4.85 147 run in her blown Firebird.

Dollar won this when Hererich fouled.

Baldwin got the win over Smith,

Moser barely beat Kohotek 4.72 to 4.73.

The first pair of the first round was Frank Kohotek taking on David Moser in the battle of ex-pro stockers. Moser got the win with a 4.72 to Frank’s close 4.73 Frank had trouble when the chutes did not come out He got the new car stopped but not without damage to the front end and rocker panel. Mat Thomas got the win with a 4.83 139.41when he got around Ed Roach’s shutoff 4.84 123.

David Baldwin ran another 4.80 138.89 to win over David Smith troubled 4.93 in his 55 Chevrolet. Chris Dollar got a break when Jeff Heferich red lighted during their pair. Dollar ran a off pace 4.92 120.95 for the win while Heferich hung it out for a sub-index run of 4.65 150.10 in his Calais.

The temperature was dropping and the wind was picking up as the semis began. Mat Thomas faced off with David Baldwin. Baldwin rolled the light and got a foul, while Thomas ran an off-pace 4.883 140.01 for the win. In the second pairing David Moser took on Chris Dollar. Chris Dollar took a win with a 4.704 144.46 to the pedaling 4.884 145.16 of Moser.

Moser won the first race of the year at Denton.

The final was a rematch of the night before at Texas Raceway with Mat Thomas and Chris Dollar. Chris Dollar had won the night before at Kennedale. Thomas continued his incredible final round streak at Redline Raceway. Chris Dollar won the battle of the black car of Dollar and the black wheels of Thomas.

In the finals Dollar beat Thomas.

The Wichita Falls Reign of Terror continued as Chris Dollar won his second in a row and Mat Thomas was the runner up twice in a row. Dollar won the race with a 4.81 136.65 to Thomas’ 4.85 141.20. Chris Dollar wanted to Tommy Keeter at the Auto Shop, and car owner David Tanner at Wichita Tank. Dollar also wanted to thanks his Dad, his wife Michele, for letting him race. Dollar also wanted thank his sons Sean and Jacob.

The Thomas crew was the runner up.

Chris Dollar and his sons were the victors tonight.
